The TO BE CONTINUED at the end of the film?

What was suppose to happen next? They should have ended the movie with a better resolve than that if the sequel wasn't gonna be made.Cuz after all that story buildup and the story close to and end to tag on the TO BE CONTINUED line is kind of a cop out and false hope.

I agree. I have seen this movie since I was a kid. Always liked it on HBO. But the ending was always stupid to me. A creepy mummy turns into a bad alien Halloween costume. A guy gets shot. And for no apparent reason, he is taken by the alien. A crystal is left on the floor. Again. No apparent reason. And for another no apparent reason, a guy is burned by it the same way that "fungus" burned them. Totally dumb ending that seemed to be a sign that the writer had writer's block. The To Be Continued at the end made me wonder if somebody got drunk before editing. Because that was a total Mel Brooks ending.

Ok.. Having seen this movie a couple of times (Spoiler Alert)

The Mummy is actually an alien that was dormant. It was awoken by the X-Rays and discovered that it's mode of travel - Crystals that are placed on a device - have been stolen.

So it goes in search of the crystals. The green mold that is found in the sarcophagus and on the mummy seems to be a part of the alien and I believed it was mentioned that all who touched the alien would die.

The mold likewise is activated my X-Rays and some scenes show this effect.

The ending scene - you had the alien who is short of one crystal to start his transporter - and was given the crystal by one of the professors. The alien - now with the full set - is able to transform or regenerate to the classic alien form.

Another professor with a police guard arrive and that professor - fearing that the alien would leave and thus take the advanced technology with him - calls for the guard to shoot the alien.

The first professor shields the alien and takes the bullet, and as he lies injured the alien reached out to take his hand - presumably to save him in gratitude. Both disappear leaving one crystal behind..

The greedy professor- seeing that yells that the crystal is his and grabs it - and is then exposed to the the deadly mold. One would guess that the alien knew that would be the outcome when it left the crystal behind.

Was the alien evil - that depends. Whether the mold was a part of him, or an infection he carried we do not know. However he awakened to find that his carefully hidden belongings has been stolen and it needed them back to leave the planet.
However at the end it did show a level of compassion in reaching out and taking the injured professor presumably to help and save him.

It also could very well be a pilot of a TV show (like so many others) that was never picked up.

I think the "To Be Continued" would have been the journey of McCradden and the alien to whereever they were going.

If they had decided to build a series around who the Alien was and the reason for it to be on Earth, and that its journey to other planets/places were interrupted then it could be interesting.

Certainly from McCradden's viewpoint he would be seeing the stars
