order of assimulation

Norris is the shadow on the wall. He assimilates Palmer after they come back from investigating the downed ship with MacReady. During the power outage, Palmer or Norris lures Fuchs outside to assimilate him. The same person is also likely the one who assimilates Blair as he’s locked in the shack.

I agree that Childs and MacReady both survived the Thing (only to probably freeze to death).

Good to see there are a few others. Most seem to think Childs was a Thing by the end.
