Was watching a youtube docu the other night , and one of the guys who worked behind the scenes said they did film a different ending where mac is rescued, taking back to civilisation , given the blood test and he is human !

Yep! There was also an alternate ending shot where we see a dog (presumably The Thing) that has survived the explosion. It begins walking away from the camp but turns around to look at the blaze one final time before sprinting off into the distance. This ending was used in one of the TV versions.
shareOh thank God you said this. I have had the memory of that dog ending and thought I must have dreamed it since it doesn't seem to actually be in the movie.

Actually that's ending of the 2011 Thing prequel which sets the opening for this one.
shareNo, I’m talking about the 1982 film. The ending involved no helicopter or anything from the 2011. This ending also had some lame narration about “watching the skies” as a reference to the 1951 film. I’m sure it’s on YouTube somewhere.
