The Thing is multi dimensional

Since you cannot be a thing cell AND be a different cell at the same time an explanation would be that the cells themselves come from a pocket universe or a different dimension or something.

I'm comparing it to the James Bond submarine Lotus Esprit S1 . There is no way those wheels just dissapear inside of the car and be replaced with the covers with the extending fins. There is just no room inside that car!
