Special Effects....this....or An American Werewolf In London?

I know Rob Bottin had a 'bigger playing field' in terms of various different creations.....But which one has the best effects?

Personally (and as much as I love to see Norris' neck expand, bubble and contort, during the defibrillator sequence) my money is on Rick Bakers (still) amazing initial Werewolf Transformation (not to mention Griffin Dunnes first appearence as 'undead' Jack)

Taste is subjective.....so hopefuly this thread won't lead to any arguments....But I'd be more than interested to read everyone's choice/opinions on this?

I watched both films as a small kid and Werewolf definitely scared me the most. The Thing was more "whacky" than anything. Though the scene where they are examining the huge block of ice in the room was creepy.

A bit like the Space Jockey scene in Alien when they leave it and the flashlights bounce off it, and the camera remains zooming in on it. I always expected it to come alive and move.

This one of course but I love both films

Werewolf, no contest. That transformation scene still stands up today. The pain and anguish of turning. Nothing sexy about it. Just raw intense cinema magic.

Werewolf. That 36 year old transformation scene makes a lot of the CGI effects i see today look like crap.Love both movies though.

As great as this is, I don't think anything could top American Werewolf for special effects in that era.

The transformation in AAWIL is better than anything in The Thing, however The Thing has way more FX work on show, so I'd had to vote for The Thing.

It's still the greatest werewolf transformation scene of all time. The Thing's effects kinda teeter up and down in terms of what's better and what isn't. I'd say the dog-Thing and the Norris's severed head are better, but Blair-Thing and Palmer-Thing are not better.
