Was Bennings something else?

The Thing seems to dominate an organism easily, they never see it coming, it hides until its alone with someone and then strikes. Yet with Bennings it seems to be struggling to dominate him, he even runs outside into the cold where he is discovered by the others and burned quickly. Could there be a second organism that is the lesser evil or is Bennet an Alien who has some resistance to the thing but is caught and killed before he can do anything.

They just interrupted it as it was trying to assimilate him. Same as the kennel scene.

What exactly do you mean "a second organism"? Second to what?

But it seems to Assimilate everything else a lot quicker. The kennel scene kind of backs up my theory, of something making it harder for the thing to assimilate others. It would have already planted its self amungst the dogs which is why they caught it in the act, and if Bennings was the other thing it would explain that scene.

It's a bit of a ying and yang theory but it would be possible for something else to evolve amungst the thing and have less of an end of days plan. Especially when you consider the thing is a microorganism, and the smaller something is the quicker it can evolve, especially on earth.

There's no real time references for either scene.
We've no idea how long Windows leaves Bennings alone for. And although it seems like Clark returns to the kennel almost immediately, I've read that there is a much longer gap than is indicated in the way the movie is cut.
Either way it's impossible to know what factors into how long an assimilation might take. For example a lot might depend on the mass of the thing doing the assimilating and whatever is being assimilated -- a dog being considerably smaller than a man.
