The Thing dog goes in the kennel and attacks the other dogs.
It then escapes through the roof.
Why are they not concerned about where it is and what it's doing?
They just carry on checking things out as if that particular Thing doesn't exist anymore.

In a previous shot, it looks like you see it's "tail" shoot upwards, which I took to be the Thing escaping.
Actually, I always thought that the thing that comes out of the dog thing ascends up. They all cease firing just to look at it. The part that falls in the fire is the plant-like thing. Or another part of it that was climbing up.

I'm guessing that based on their actions after this, that it didn't escape and was burnt in the top corner of the kennel.
The editing is slightly confusing however.
I just watched the scene from my DVD. It does look like that part of the creature/thing or whatever escapes through the roof, then Childs comes in with the flame thrower and torches the main body of the Thing still on the ground.

It is confusing because the guys don't mention anything about something going through the roof, you would think that they would since they were watching this happening.
Then later at the "autopsy" Blair says they "stopped it" before it had a chance to finish imitating the dogs.
I think part of it did escape through the roof but I admit it's still a little vague.
