If you watch close, when Sweeney does the shaving duel with Pirelli, Pirelli hits the high note in the song, Sweeny has lathered up his volunteer, he uses the towel to hide the beard he rips off, then uses the towel to clean up his miraculous shave.

And Mrs Lovett delivers the punch line
"And who'd of thought dear, you pulled it off".
