Valerie Quennessen

I have seen this movie several times. In fact, it was on HBO last night. I no idea that she died in 1989. Does anyone know exactly what happened? She was so beautiful. She had such a natural beauty. May she rest in peace.

reply

I think she died in a motorcycle accident.

reply

Kind of ironic that she had a motorcycle accident in the movie, Summer Lovers.

reply

yep,...........road accident, no wonder she didn´t make more movies!!

reply

Actually, she retired from acting a few years after this film was made so that she could raise her children. What we will never know, however, is whether she planned any sort of comeback. Yes, she could have been a superstar.

reply

It's a great pity.

François Manceaux, a crew member of Summer Lovers, is the father of Valerie Quennessen two sons.

I looked up his name on here and it say's he was an archeologist in the movie.I wonder if he's the one with the speaking part?

reply

I have tried it but I am unable to identifity him in the movie.

She got into movies to break her shyness. I think she succeeded.
In this movie she says she didn't like the bikes, but she appeared to handle a moped well in "French Postcards".

Since I am not much of a movie buff, I was unaware she had died. SL is my all time favorite movie and I loved the two beautiful women who knew how to do polyamory before the word was invented (although the idea has been around for centuries).

I met a woman at Harbin Hot Springs who was a dead ringer for Valerie, but didn't have an accent, and I asked her if she had seen the film, she said no. Unfortunately, I never got to know her, too big an age difference.

I feel great sorrow knowing Valerie is gone.

Yea, just found this movie late night on encore love stories. Must say I am very, very impressed by all the footage of the greek islands, which is one of the areas of the world I most dream of seeing one day.

I don't care what the reviews say, the acting and writing don't seem any worse than the standards of cinema. (I'm watchin it right now).

Very creepy to see how young Valerie died. Watching the movie, it's immediately clear how talented she is, and she's really beautiful too. I think this film should be better remembered, to honor her performance if for nothing else.

It's such a heart-breaking tragedy that the lovely, talented and charismatic Valerie Quennessen died at such a young age. She's absolutely mesmerizing in this film.

Check her out in French Postcards (find a used copy on VHS cheap at Amazon or eBay or something). She has much the same appeal as she did in this film in French Postcards (which is generally equally as silly as Summer Lovers).

I actually think she elevates Summer Lovers somewhat. It's got ridiculously bad dialogue and character motivation, and mostly I keep a copy for the music, the Greek isles, and Valerie. Daryl Hannah is so unbelievably bad in this film even that's fun to watch.

Aw, hell. She died? Now I'm depressed. Her eyes were incredible.

I bought the movie to see Daryl Hannah in between two of her earlier supporting part films "Hard Country" and "Blade Runner" and her first widely acclaimed lead role in "Splash". There is a definite improvement to her skills through the films. But, I came here right after viewing the film to find out who Valerie was. She floored me. Was the best actor in the film. Was beautiful. Her eyes did have a unique sparkle (or was that a little olive oil?)

I think anyone in the future who sees this movie is bound to find that same sad spot we all here have said we found ourselves in upon learning of her death. Damn, life is a bitch to those of us who have to keep on living it.
