Blu-Ray August 2015 Release!

Finally, this film is being released in the U.S. on Blu-Ray this August 11th. Specs and details of extras to come later. It will likely be the original widescreen ratio in which the film was actually shot; and with the director commentary that was recorded last year.

Here is the link to a forum for the upcoming Blu-ray release:

the widescreen ratio for this is 2.35 I doubt this is real news..

2:35 is wider than 1:85, hence you see more of the theatrical image.
Which is great, considering this whole movie is eye-candy.

reply

I understand that. My point to Saint-21 is that the exact widescreen ratio is irrelevant in regard to the validity of the news. The director himself said that a widescreen Blu-Ray was in the works. For some reason, the release is being held back. Over the years, some sources claim the film was originally shot in 2:35, while others swear it was actually in 1:85. The director has not confirmed the ratio, and I'm not taking the word of someone that watched it in the cinema 32 years ago. Back then the average movie goer did not notice aspect ratios... unless they were in the business themselves.

Back in 1982 I was taking Media classes and was very much into film and projection, so I was fully aware of ratios when watching a film.
The movie hit Rochester, NY long after it's initial release, at least 2 months and played in 1 theater, the Lowes Towne. I was anxious to see the movie after seeing the endless commercials for it on the new channel : "MTV".
I had a girlfriend at the time, Karen, and the two of us went to see it.

So, if I remember all of that, I surely remember that it was presented in 2:35-1.

I once owned a 16mm flat print of it and it was probably taken from the same source as the DVD, as the opening credits were letter-boxed in 1:85-1, the rest of the movie was 1:33-1, or 4x3.

...but don't take my word for it...LOL ;-)

Not really, but I know what I saw and it was 2:35-1.

I do hope that it gets released on BR.

I contacted twilight time and they told pre orders will be up in july, so this is happening. with them doing it, iam sure the transfer will be excellent.. Also, you don't need a region free player just whatever your using. but get your order sin early. for these sell out quickly and will go for hundreds on eBay..

This exciting news! I am not very technical but i saw the 35m screening a tribeca 3 years ago and the movie didn't seem that wide, the aspect ratio was the same as in the opening credits. My question is , do twilight sell their movies via Amazon too? thanks in advance.

saint-21,

I have a regular DVD player AND a region-free player but this release is a Blu-Ray disc. What did you mean when you wrote "you don't need a region free player just whatever your using"?
I thought you couldn't play Blu-Ray discs on a regular player (I've tried).
Thanks for any info.
😉

Blu-ray discs can be region-locked like DVD's. It's just a slightly different system. What the person meant is that it will play on any Blu-ray player, despite the country you may be in. If you want to see this release, you will have to get a blu-ray player... ANY blu-ray player.
