Sweet and old fashioned pic about a menage a trois
I say sweet because it depicts a 3-way relationship that's actually about trust and a deep emotional connection between the people involved. These days we've become so cynical that any depiction of a 3-some tends to be about being dirty, kinky and manipulative. The current depictions of 3-somes that I can come up with in mainstream media off the top of my head are "Wild Things," "Tilt" (EPSN's poker drama from a few years back) & "American Pie: The Naked Mile." The first two were sleazy encounters with people trying to double cross each other and the third was turned down by the hero because it wasn't romantic. You never see the idea that some folks could all be happy in such a relationship in the mainstream media. Even Showtime's program "Big Love" is about a crazy religious group, not simply a polyamerous group.
I say old fashioned because it doesn't seem to be a true menage a trois; the girls are close friends but it seems that they are both his girlfriends. Never once do we see the girls kiss or get the idea that the two of them have a sexual attraction to each other. Ironically a 3-some scene these days (bad and sleazy as they are portrayed) would have to feature at least the girls kissing and feeling each other up. Roger Ebert's review of this film shows a perfect example of the times this film came out of when he says:
I say menage a trois cautiously, since this one doesn't fit the textbook definition: Both of the women become the man's lovers, but they do not have a relationship with one another. There are a few things that the beach party genre is not yet quite ready for.
