This movie is a classic

I first saw this movie as a 15 year old guy and it definitely made an impression on me. It is dumb, but superb in its own way.

I just wonder what Peter Gallagher got for his second wish?

I was close to that age myself when I first saw it (HBO, so must have been '83, yes? I was born in '68, so about the same, then.) and it had the same impact on me, and I'm female. I've not seen it lately, but still have vivid memories of it. I suppose a big part of it was the fun, new (to me g*) 'taboo' of the FMF aspect, but oh, the location... Ever since seeing it, I've wanted to go to Greece and stay in one of those hillside apartments, walk on those beaches, swim in that ocean ... just amazing.

Of course, in my little daydreams, it's me with two men... ;-D

Ha, to get stuck in a time warp? ;-)

i too saw it at about the same age(15/16)when it came out in 82.i was very impressed by both the music and the glorious greek scenery(which is really shown to full effect on the big screen)not to mention the gorgeous actresses!!i was so entranced by the scenes in santorini, that when i got home, and opened my bedroom curtains,i was SOOOOO disappointed with my bland surrondings, lol,i wanted to visit santorini on that same day!!anyway, its a really good movie,i still enjoy it:)

I was looking up this movie because my friends had never heard of it. So I went to IMDB to register and lo and behold I typed in Peter Gallagher and there it was!

I was 18 when I first saw this and fell immediately in LOVE with Peter Gallagher! I was just graduating High School and thought...How do these kids get to vacation on this Greek beautiful Island? He is so handsome in this film and the panoramic views are sensational. So I agreed with your comments and decided to reply to you!

i think this must be one of the most misunderstood movies of all time. In my book this ranks up there with the classics. If for nothing more than the mood it portrays. It is one of those films that just wraps you up and makes you wonder.

This movie is a man’s fantasy brought to life on screen. Two women like Valerie and Daryl, one on each side at the beach, at breakfast, in bed.

Valérie Quennessen looks more beautiful in this movie than possibly any other actress, ever.

She is missed.

Most definitely. The photograph of her that was developed in the film showcases the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen.

reply

I have always envied Peter Gallagher because he got to star in this movie.

I too miss Valerie.

Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?

reply

I've seen this movie several times. In fact, it was on late last night on HBO. I no idea that Valerie Quennessen was killed in an auto accident. Does anyone know exactly what happened? She was so beautiful!

reply

You refer to the scene in which Peter and Daryl reveal the photographies and continue observing Valerie's photo in first plane. It is a great scene, even exciting. If you concentrate on Peter's eyes you will see that he is on the verge of crying on seeing the photo and thinking that she is missing... This happens almost at the end of the movie. Great scene!

I feel the same thing that Peter when I see this scene now and I think that she has got lost of so tragic form.

That up there ^^^^ was the first post I ever made on imdb. Back before I knew how to do quotes.

I am really sad the boards are going away.

There's one line I find HILARIOUS, but only because of the irony. Daryl Hannah says she once dreamed of becoming a mermaid. Two years later, dreams come true (see SPLASH)

This movie is really really great. I watched it when I was 15 year old. I got a T-shirt with Summer Lovers print on it when it showed on 1982. And brought the soundtrack immediately. Just because of the beautiful scene & people, I decide I must go to Greece in my life time. Now, I've been Satorini 4th times & I'm still enjoy going there. In fact, I can still identify some scene location approximately nowadays.

Yes, Summer Lovers is forgotten, nevertheless Randal Kleiser's Blue Lagoon is very remembered and for me it's a worse movie.

reply

You have the t-shirt since 1982? Relic!

reply

It's one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. I've only seen it a couple of times years and years ago but I can still remember the gorgeous scenes from it, it's one of those movies you never forget.
