missing scene?

i own an older vhs version of starstruck, have the new US dvd, and am now aware there are several differences between the two of them (scenes rearranged, 'it's not enough' deleted from the vhs version...)
however, while watching the Aussie trailer on the dvd, i noticed that there is yet another scene that is missing, and from both of my versions.
now i know, on average, footage that is featured in trailers, sometimes doesn't make it to the finished film.
but, this scene found in the trailer looks like a musical number of some sorts...
black walls with words painted on them, angus under a table, and a bunch of dancers...
it looks awesome and this scene appears to be mastered and part of the film.
any-one know what this is?
is this a part of the Aussie version?

The scene u are referring to was a musical scene which from memory, was a dream angus had early on in the flick.
It was the swingers singing starstruck and angus waking up in a white classroom set with words across the wall behind them.
i totally remember seeing this when i was a kid at the movies.
When i got the dvd it didnt have this scene
I sent an email to the company that produced the dvd and they said that scene wasnt in the aussie release but the US theatre release (I live in OZ and I am POSITIVE i saw it in the theatres). They also said a lot of the footage went missing so they dont have a print/copy of that scene.
The "dream" scene was a fav and I too am disappointed about it not being in the dvd version and not even being in the "extras"

i know of the scene you're talking about, when i saw it at the movies it left an impression on me and then it was cut from the video version but the version that i saw theatrically in melbourne australia must have been the WORK PRINT that was mentioned in the commentry

It's the title song by The Swingers. This (awesome) dream sequence seems to have been inexplicably removed before the film was released on video, but it aired on TV as a music video and someone who taped it in 1982 put it online 25 years later. Weird how much stuff would be lost forever if not for YouTube...

Maybe it was deleted because The Swingers sing exactly the same song during the finale?

I just watched the video on YouTube, and it's my guess that some folks' memories are mistaken. This appeared to me to be a music video specifically made for the song, and was never actually a part of the movie. Several things tipped me off:

1. The orchestration of the music is completely different from how it sounds in the finale of the film. I doubt on a relative ly low budget film they would have done a second recording...they would have used ONE for both the "deleted" scene and the finale.

2. Ross O'Donovan's hair is very different in the music video than it is in the film.

3. The clip begins and ends too cleanly to have been something simply cut from the film.

Just IMHO, it's not a deleted scene but a specially made music video for the song.

I think your theory is correct. In the US, A&M records was the label for Split Enz and all of their side projects and spinoffs, plus a lot of other AUS & NZ bands. For some reason they had to constantly screw around with any of these releases (changing the title, track order, artwork, deleting tracks, remixing, etc.). I don't know why, maybe they thought US audiences would like it better that way. The US soundtrack album for this movie was different than the AUS version, and I think this video is the US mix.
I saw this movie in the theater, owned it on VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD, and I don't recall this scene, but I do remember seeing it as a video, probably on some USA Network video show.
