Shouldn't the debris field that the Reliant encountered told them that something in the map was "wrong"?

The Reliant seems to have ignored the solar system maps they had of the Ceti Alpha system as that would have demonstrated that one of its planets was missing. The scanners don’t pick up a planet is missing. The scanners also picked a minor energy reading, while there are people on the planet that don’t get picked up.
