A great cinematic Trek experience

Lauded and regularly cited as the best of the Star Trek films, Wrath of Khan is indeed quality entertainment. It also happens one of the precious few times in the film series when the focus on a raging antagonist, more so than allegorical depth, ends up paying dividends. That said, the script wiggles in some interesting, daring character-driven story angles, most notably the aging of the original crew. Whereas The Motion Picture was supposed to transpire less than three years after the show, Wrath of Khan actually happens about a decade later. Kirk and McCoy are old and have to come to terms with their newly discovered limitations (a running gag about reading glasses amusingly hammers home the point). Better still, the film puts the spotlight on Kirk insatiable desire to win by means necessary, allowing the audience to better understand his psyche, and the results are genuinely gripping:http://www.cutprintfilm.com/features/star-trek-retrospective/
