Why does?

Scotty come to the bridge with his injured nephew? Surely going to sickbay would have been a better idea. He might have been saved!!

reply

For all we know sickbay was full of trainees as brave and courageous as the Engineering trainees who panicked and ran away. In his shock over his nephew's injuries, he probably thought them too green and antsy under pressure to adequately help him. He needed professional help for his nephew, and since McCoy spent a lot of time at the bridge he thought the man was up there.

reply

I hardly think that the chief medical officer would be on the bridge at such a time. His skills and consultation would be needed in sickbay. Also, Scotty's nephew would not get better treatment even if Bones was on the bridge, as there's no life beds there.

reply

For dramatic purposes. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

reply

You think Preston would have lived if Scott had taken him directly to sickbay?

reply

The novelization- which had Kirk taking the lift to Engineering and receive Scotty carrying Preston- has McCoy prognose Preston as terminal (he inhaled too much of the Energizer's toxic fumes).
