one of the most memorable endings in cinema

This film is a work of art, very beautifull in every sense. I dont know why is too forgotten, the film captures another state of mind, like an existentialist approach, also It shows a true love for the image. The final shot is one the most deeply philosophical and memorable that I have seen. Wim Wenders shows a true love for cinema like giving almost the life to capture an image.

The ending took me completely by surprise, I must say. A pretty dour note to end on, too.

However, I'm assuming that Friedrich survives, since I hear his character shows up in Lisbon Story, is that correct?

I agree. One of my favorite films ever.

Hey a friend of mine owns this film on VHS - do you know where it's available on DVD?

Amazon UK had a R2 DVD release last time I looked.

You can also get a R2 release from Amazon Germany. (The German DVD comes in German and English.)

There is also a Scandinavian DVD with English DTS 5.1 audio. Released by Sandrew Metronome.
