did anyone else think the main detective had similar looks and mannerisms as james caan? the whole time i watched the movie i felt like i was watching james caan.

No, not really. The main detective was played by Jack Hedley, an English actor who regularly appeared in the TV series 'Colditz'. Fulci seemed to prefer hiring UK actors for the lead roles in his films ( e.g. Ian McCulloch, Richard Johnson, Catriona MacColl and Patrick Magee).

ABSOLUTELY!! Just watched this on TV yesterday and I thought the exact same thing.
