eye slashing

I heard there was an eye slashing in the movie, how graphic is it?

compton is n da house

reply

Very. Without giving too much away it goes way beyond a mere slash down an eyeball.

It's one of the best unless you know asian gore horror. I have not seen the Guinea flicks.

reply

It's incredibly sadistic and effective, and lasts longer than any sane director would have allowed. Everyone I've ever watched it with groaned in disgust.

Gory, yes, and you see the blade go right down her face from forhead to cheek via the eyeball...but the problem with this scene is: would somebody about to get razored very slowly in the eye actually keep their eye wide open and stare at it as it went it? No - You'd close your eye!!!!

Same silly thing with "Zombie Flesh Eaters" when the wood splinter goes in the eye. In both cases, instinct would make you screw your eye up tight. (Plus in that scene what's stopping her from using her hands to like, you know, move the bit of wood out of the way?)

Good old Fulci, realism out the window as always, to make the most elaborate possible scene of mutilation!

reply

Hahaha! Yes, the eyeball impalement in Zombie is really silly... but for some reason, i think the eyeball slashing in The New York Ripper works. It's just something i never questioned, and i guess i can attribute that to the way Fulci and Co. staged the violence in this film. It's extremely bizarre and sadistic in any case.

Is this eyeball-slashing scene some sort of reference to Un Chien Andalou? Just asking. ;)

reply

not really. I don't think it is, but lots of people might draw that conclusion

reply

The symbolism of the image works similarly for me, and certainly Fulci would have been aware of that iconic film.

reply

I think it more looks like the eye slashing in Thriller: a cruel film (1973)

reply

It was pretty nasty! Looked pretty real too!

The razor blade scene in this movie is pretty twisted.

Cuts off her nipple and then basically dissects her eyeball whilst it's still in her head...and she's still alive.

A little too sadistic for my taste, I've seen a few other Fulci films and other Italian video nasties but this scene was way over the top.

reply

I heard Fulci recoiled at the violence in "The Passion of the Christ". What a smuck!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

Fulci died 12 years ago.

That's it? I don't see what all the fuzz is about.

reply

yeah it's about as graphic as you can get, really... I mean, how could it be more graphic?

reply
