Like I said in another thread, I was kind of depressed after watching this as a kid, but this thread is *beep* funny.

In all honesty, this post makes me sad. I for one do not enjoy the scene, because of what you say. However, I do love the scene, but for a different reason. Even as a child, I found it heart-breaking, and it wasn't until about two years ago when I realised why. The producers summed it up wonderfully in the documentary I saw on the special edition DVD I saw of this masterpiece. The Snowman melting is exactly like the equivalent of a friend or a family member dying, and for anyone who has had that happening to them, like I have, this scene would affect them I think and in quite a substantial way too.

I loved your post!
It's a beautiful scene. It's superbly done and the animation is just...out of this world (to me).
I think what makes the ending so sad is the music. It's very striking and it kind of crashes down on you as that realization moment. It was all lovely and a fantasy but it all comes down to that one moment...nothing lasts forever.
You can have years and years of happiness with one person or a day's worth of happiness with someone, but it will end.
I also found the ending to 'The Snowman and the snowdog' sad too. Because foolishly, as an audience, you expect a different ending, but it can only end the same way in this particular circumstance.
I find the scene sad and all, but I must admit this post was funnier than expected.
