Hey, I watched six pack a little while ago and loved it, but i can't find anything about that song. The one the kids were singing about Tenessee while they were going to Tenessee. Does anyone know the words or a place i can find them. Thanks
I was actually in the movie. Played Little Harry....it's true..no reason to lie. Song was "Rocky Top" in the trailer and has been covered multiple times. I know even Phish does a cover. I think "The Band" might have done original version but could be wrong.
The hit of "Rocky Top" was first recorded by The Osborne Brothers in 1967, the song was a top 40 hit on the country music charts in early 1968. It became a Tennessee state song in 1982.
The bluegrass classic, "Rocky Top", by Boudleaux (pronounced "BOOD-low") and Felice Bryant, was written in about ten minutes according to the story I've heard. The couple also wrote a bunch of hits for the Everly Brothers, including "Bye Bye, Love", "Wake Up, Little Susie", "All I Have To Do Is Dream", "Bird Dog" and "Love Hurts", a country love song until Nazereth made it a bigger hit in the 70s.
Being a Florida Gators fan, I HATE that song. Watch any University of Tennessee sporting event and you'll see why. It's like their marching band doesn't know any other songs. But I still like this film. Have ever since the first time I saw it on HBO back in '83.
whats sad is the osbourne brothers are from a town ten miles down the road hyden ky. they were the 1st to record it. my great great uncle used to perform with them alot. archie campbell was good friends with them and thats how they came to record it.
