As a kid watching this the beginning disturbed me.....

......when he really just has to kill someone, and goes out back and just starts chopping wood......but it's NOT ENOUGH.

He just has to chop some real people.

What was he at a boarding house or something?

I barely remember, would like to see it again and see if that part's still creepy as I remember.

What's anyon think....does that part hold up/

Yeah that's a great opener to the movie, had a big affect on me when I first saw that as a young lad. I presume he's living at a half-way house for offenders, kind of a care-in-the-community program. It's a superbly shot scene, a great build up of tension, with the stifling heat, the claustrophobia of his small room, the incessant noise from the family. When he goes postal I knew I was gonna enjoy the film!

Judging by your signature, I'm assuming you're a fellow DEVO fan?
If so, I guess you can appreciate this... I always thought the killer (John Kirby) looked like Bob Mothersbaugh from DEVO.

Not only did he look a lot like him, the silver jumpsuit he was wearing for most of the movie was very "Freedom of Choice"!

The beginning was fantastic.

Omg me too. It was really traumatic to see this beginning so young... Got the images stuck in my head for while. Definitely a great scary movie though

The movie begins on a disturbing note and holds it till the end. I love it.

Yes, very effective start to the movie. I always remember the creepy score over the opening credits too. That killer scared me something fierce as a kid.

It's very atmospheric. What's great is that you go into it thinking "Chuck Norris flick", but right away it establishes that this isn't your typical Norris movie.
