Yeah that's a great opener to the movie, had a big affect on me when I first saw that as a young lad. I presume he's living at a half-way house for offenders, kind of a care-in-the-community program. It's a superbly shot scene, a great build up of tension, with the stifling heat, the claustrophobia of his small room, the incessant noise from the family. When he goes postal I knew I was gonna enjoy the film!
Judging by your signature, I'm assuming you're a fellow DEVO fan? If so, I guess you can appreciate this... I always thought the killer (John Kirby) looked like Bob Mothersbaugh from DEVO.
Not only did he look a lot like him, the silver jumpsuit he was wearing for most of the movie was very "Freedom of Choice"!
Yes, very effective start to the movie. I always remember the creepy score over the opening credits too. That killer scared me something fierce as a kid.
It's very atmospheric. What's great is that you go into it thinking "Chuck Norris flick", but right away it establishes that this isn't your typical Norris movie.
