I finally found it!!

Man that was a massive relief. I caught this film one night on television. I had fallen asleep with the tv on and when I woke up this was playing. It was about halfway through and I had no idea what was going on. It scared the crap out of me. Some really intense scenes that stayed with me. After searching on and off for years I finally found it! Now I'm trying to track down a copy so I can watch it again.

You can get the DVD at amazon. I had never heard of this film until it was just recommended to me there. I can't believe I have never heard of this, it made over 1 million at the box office back in 1982, not exactly a hit, but pretty good for a horror film.
