Missing scene?

I like this film and was glad to get the new DVD. But I remember the review in Fangoria included a still of The Messiah's head on the floor, beside the TV showing the news image of John Doe (must have been part of the scene when his head comes flying off).

This image wasn't in the film...anyone know if it was cut?

Mind you, Fangoria was always doing things like that (printing pictures of gore that weren't in the released version of films) so maybe it was never included in the final cut.

Typical - Fangoria to blame again, I reckon.

This is typical with their set photos. Other examples include Final Destination and even Saving Private Ryan, both featuring very clear images of the top half of heads after they were decapitated that didn't make it into the final print, or were just props never intended for large close up shots. With Phantasm, at least we know about 5 hours of unused footage was shot, so in their defense, there was no telling what would actually end up in a movie.

I remember that shot from the back of the German VHS, see link:

Finally obtained a copy of this movie. First read about this in an edition of 'Fangoria' back in '82. Been looking out for it years.

I'll update my post later and let you know if the shot is in this cut of the movie.

UPDATE

Just watched the scene where The Sender knocks of Messiah's head. The shot of the head in front of the tv is missing.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

This image is also in my Aurum Encyclopedia of Horror, but it was definitely not in the film. Shame.
