I might have liked this movie more if I hadn't read the book first

When they brought in all that magic crap, I said no thank you.

I had been wanting to see this for years after hearing Doug Walker (the Nostalgia Critic) talk about why he loved it so much. By chance I finally saw it earlier this morning. Other than the animation, the excellent imagery and colors, this movie was largely underwhelming. The story wasn't at all what I expected it to be. I expected a great deal of build-up, more story structure, more plot, this big battle between science and magic. So what's the center story? Timmy's sick with pneumonia and they have to move. There was too much shallow meandering going on, and this, I'm unfortunate to say, was a pretty big let down for me. If I hadn't gone into this with my expectations I probably would still feel the same way about it. This movie is average more than it is great.

I actually saw the film shortly after having read the book for class in 6th grade. I enjoyed both tbh. I get why people hate the magic in the movie, but it honestly doesn't bother me that much. I still think the conflict regarding Timmy's illness and the in-fighting among the rats were very well-done.

I had never read the book. The movie is pretty good. I own it. I do admit there are some movies based on the books where I think the book is better. Like First Blood.

Good point, past self!

Now I'm going to hit the add reply button while zapping my computer with a taser so that this is sent back in time where my past self can see it.

Note to 2015 me - in about 4 years, stock up on toilet paper, surgical masks and rubber gloves.
