I wonder if they know they were in this film? (minor spoilers)

A fascinating film.

A thought crossed my mind:

When I watch something like this, I wonder whether the various people who were part of the footage know they were in this film. The three Iceleandic girls whose village later got destroyed by the volcano. The dancers in the neighborhood celebrations. The young lady whose eyes glanced at the camera. The Takenoko girl. The guy who killed the giraffe. The kids beating the ground with poles to scare away the moles.

I wonder if these individuals ever become aware that they appeared in this film and have been immmortalized.

Just a thought.

Not likely. In the early 80's film makers were not as compelled to get releases on individuals shot in public places. It's a major change in the documentary process that now you can get sued for so many images that don't have prior authorization.

Sad in a way as it does limit or at least complicate shooting documentaries in the internet age.

But of course there is the discussion in the film about how the subjects are aware of the camera, and how it is ridiculous to ask people not to look at the camera.

Imdb trivia: The scenes from Iceland were filmed by Haroun Tazieff in 1965, on the island Vestmannaeyjar. It shows 3 sisters, Kristbjörg Sigríður Kristmundsdóttir, born 1954, Halldóra Kristmundsdóttir, born 1957, and Áshildur Kristmundsdóttir, born 1959. They first found out about being in this film in June 2015.
