Apollo Creed vs. Clubber Lang: Which Rocky Opponent Would Win A Fight

https://screenrant.com/apollo-creed-vs-clubber-lang-fight-winner/

Apollo Creed and Clubber Lang are iconic antagonists from the Rocky franchise and excellent boxers, but who would win in a fight between the two?

reply

Comparing these characters is very difficult because Apollo beat Rocky and then was beaten by a couple of seconds by Rocky in their rematch and then Rocky knocked out the guy who beat Apollo to death in two rounds.

I agree, it is difficult to compare the characters/fighters against one another. But you sound like a fight fan LR, so you’ve probably heard the old boxing maxim: styles make fights….

Just because A beat B, and B beat C, that doesn’t mean C can’t beat A.

How an opponent matches up against another opponent may differ from how they each matchup against another tough foe.

Mike Tyson (A) beat Tony “T.N.T” Tucker (B) in 12 rounds. Tucker (B) beat James “Buster” Douglas (C) by TKO in round 10. And we know what happened to Tyson that fateful night in Tokyo in February 1990. (For the uninitiated, Douglas (C) shocked the world as a 42-1 underdog with a 10th round KO of Iron Mike (A) in what some sports historians call the the biggest upset in not only boxing, but SPORTS history).

Sharpshooting super bantamweight titlist Junior “Poison” Jones upset and twice defeated future Hall of Famer and Mexican great, “TheBaby Faced Assassin” Marco Antonio Barrera. Barrera beat Kennedy “King” McKinney in a consensus “Fight of the Year” by thrilling 12th-round KO with a minute left in their title bout in 1996. In ‘97, McKinney easily handled Jones, a dominant 4th round KO, in a fight right after Jones’ victories over Barrera.

Many times, matchups, styles and when the fight takes place factor in when determining who can beat who. Those are two examples among many in boxing history.

But you’re right in it being difficult to determine, considering it’s Rocky’s universe and he can beat anyone he wants, including Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, and Tyson Fury in consecutive fights over a year or two span if Stallone so chooses. Maybe even Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield….in ONE night!

Apologies for the long spiel, but I used to really love following the fight game and enjoy spreading the word that good fights and compelling matchups used to happen a lot more in the past than it does currently.

Cheers!

Lang wins.

Rocky out sprinted Creed and not only avoided his punches but he was able move out of the corner while cornering Apollo.
Rocky had surpassed Creed and mastered his technique yet he still nearly lost.

Clubber couldn't go more then 3 rounds, he was the Mike Tyson of Boxing if he couldn't knock out someone early he was in trouble didn't have the heart.

reply

None of that matters. Lang dominated the division and was number ranked heavyweight in the world.

reply

Then why was Apollo concerned about not letting Clubber go into the later rounds? He said Rocky needed to beat him early, and Tyson did knock people out in rounds past 3, the thing is a lot of people couldn't get there.

reply

I think he was more worried about Rocky lasting longer because of his age.

Apollo nobody had gone to distance with him either apart from Rocky twice.

Apollo was a much smarter fighter apart from going for the knockout in II Clubber was just someone who swang haymakers and couldn't adjust at all, and Rocky made him look like a full in that 2nd round, Clubber had no defense at all.

Rocky barely survived getting knocked out in the 2nd Lang fight. The only thing that saved him was his freakish durability. Creed doesn't have Rocky's durability or power.
