Why did Sly look so different since Rocky 2?

This movie was only 3 years after Rocky 2 yet Stallone's face had changed dramatically(he looked more handsome too). Maybe it was because he lost some bodyfat or it was the tan, but I don't know. What do you think?

reply

Steroids and weightlifting may have had something to do with his change in physique.

reply

Weight-loss and plastic surgery. Stallone even incorporated the acknowledgement of surgery into the script - Paulie: " You get your face all fixed up. Handsome."
Stallone was also on a very unhealthy diet during the filming of Rocky III, and First Blood. The change is physique can also be attributed to the on-going competition with Schwarzenegger.

Do you know what type of plastic surgery he got on his face?

And with unhealthy diet do you mean that he was cutting like a bodybuilder getting ready for a competition?

I'm guessing he had plastic surgery to fix the side of his face that was partially paralyzed when he was born, as well as a brow/facelift

I doubt he had a facelift at that period, he still had wrinkles on his forehead.

I read he was eating less than 200 calories a day. Basically just trained non stop. Would drink some coffee and eat a can of tuna and burnt toast, and a baked potatoe every two days so he wouldn't pass out.

What he was doing was extremely unhealthy, but it got his body fat percentage down to an extraordinarily low level. Look how skinny stallone looks in this one compared to Rocky II his frame looked totally different.

If he did that then it's so unnecesary. Did he actually say that? Because I doubt it, with the drugs he was taking he could have definitely gotten to that shape with a decent diet.

He definetly had his eyes fixed as well.If you look at him in the first two films his eyes are both lazy, but from around this film and then the rest of his films, his eyes look alot straighter.

There was no rivalry with Arnold when Rocky 3 was being made, it really only started in the mid 80's.

I think it was a combination of a few things. He had at least some minor plastic surgery. He also lost quite a bit of weight. In the first two Rockys Stallone weighed almost 200lbs. For Rocky III most people say he weighed between 160-165lbs. And also he was a lot more muscular. I think his bodyfat percentage was actually dangerously low. In one interview a few years ago Stallone said he's lucky he didn't go into cardiac arrest during Rocky III's three month shoot.

He was between 190 and 200 in Rocky 1 and 2. In Rocky 3 he weighed 155-160.

1) Plastic surgery

2) Diet/nutrition regime

3) Spending a lot of time on CA beaches

4) $200 haircuts rather than bowl cuts at home.

I read when he was making First Blood and Rocky III, he pretty much only ate toast, and just worked out all day, so he lost all this body fat, including from his face... Yes, he did have some work done, but that wasn't the sole reason for the change.

From Stallone's website:

"When making Rocky III, Sly would begin the day with a two mile jog, then go straight into 18 rounds of sparring, two hours of weightlifting and jumping rope. After all this, he would take a nap in the afternoon, then go running again! He would finish the day with a swim. On this film he made himself even leaner and smaller to enhance the ‘David & Goliath’ imagery. To get this effect Stallone dropped his body weight to a mere 155 lbs, with a diet of 10 eggwhites and a burnt piece of toast once a day, and a piece of fruit every third day. Although this diet left him weak and dizzy, he then built his muscle mass up ounce by ounce until he was up to about 175."

“I led a very unhealthy regimen while working to develop my body for the later Rocky movies. I was working out on an empty stomach, and my body began to cannibalize itself. It was my plan to reduce myself that way, then add on muscle ounce by ounce. I went down to 155 pounds – and I’m five-feet-ten. I was all skin and bone. I was also drinking great quantities of coffee to stimulate myself, to give me energy.”

He started losing weight around Vicotry. He ate fish and egg whites during First Blood.

Different and sexy!

Stallone's body also looked very different in III. He was in good shape for the first two movies. He got himself into amazing shape for III.

Like many entertainers, Sylvester Stallone had some plastic surgery. I think it was admitted early in the movie when Paulie said to Rocky, "You fixed your face up handsome."

Stallone was around 35 when he filmed Rocky III. Most young men up to around 25 can build a lot a muscle in a short amount of time because their testosterone levels are still high, maybe above 700/800 ng/dl. A 35 year old man can still build muscle but definitely not at the rate of a 15-25 male. Stallone almost certainly used steroids to prepare for his Rocky III role, and subsequent roles thereafter. He has been caught throwing HGH out a hotel window to avoid prosecution in Australia, but he was prosecuted anyway.
In short, Sly has been a roid monkey since the early 80's. Like a lot of others, his steroid use rocketed him to super fame status and fortunately he seems to have survived all that testosterone and is in good health.
