This line was in the book entitled "Reuben, Reuben"; I don't know about the movie.
Not in the movie. I wasn't aware that there was a book, though; I'll have to look for that one!
Speaking of great lines: As Gowan's mistress begins to disrobe, he (always writing, if only in his head) chuckles and, at her request, tells her what he was thinking -- a line he might write in observation:
"Released from their support, her breasts drop like hanged men."
Mind, this is from memory. I haven't seen it in 20 years. Like so many others, I eagerly await the DVD release.
