I caught the last five minutes of this film, on TV over 15 years ago.
It looked interesting, but seeing as how I now know how it ends, does anybody think it's worth me hunting it down and watching the whole thing?
I like well written, intelligent films; is this one?

Well-written, well-acted and intelligent--that just about sums up this film! I saw it on pay-TV in the 90's and would love to see it come to DVD!
I CANNOT go to the dentist without thinking about this movie...EVER.
I saw it in its original theater release 25 years ago (time flies) but I have not been able to find it in DVD or VHS. Nor have I been lucky enough to ever catch it on TV when it was shown. I MUST see it again.
Am I right in assuming there has never been a VHS or DVD made? If so, that is tragic. There have been times in my "dental life" when I would have welcomed the cathartic effect of the film.
The one word to describe the film: BRILLIANT!
(And I LOVE Tom Conti!)
It doesn't appear to be out on DVD yet, which is a shame, because this is a really good movie. We rented it a few times in the 80s, and always liked Tom Conti's performance. It is still available on VHS, which you can buy on Amazon at a pretty reasonable price. I would highly recommend this movie--too bad you saw the end first, though!

sharei didn't even know i owned a copy of it until tonight .. still without cable since Hurrican Ike over three weeks ago, i've been watching and re-watching old tapes to find ones i can record over .. Reuben, Reuben isn't going into that stack .. the copy i have is a recycled rental, but is still in pretty good shape .. it is an excellent film one i'd highly recommend .. even knowing the ending, i'm rewinding it to watch again ;)

Absolutely. I saw not long after it came out in the 1980's and liked it then. I have seen a couple more times recently and found with the passing of years it seems even better. Excellent movie.
shareI believe I saw it on HBO a many years ago - it is very good. I just checked on Netflix & couldn't find it; I guess it's not on DVD yet. Definitely worth watching.
