The music?????

I enjoyed the story but it was the music used that really made an impression on me...especially the scene of the Judge (Prince?) riding with his retinue. I tried many times to find a soundtrack recording of it but it was apparently never distributed in the USA. I notice that even the usually thorough IMDB detail sheet is missing any info on it.
I realize that it must be based on French music common to the period but I could never find anything similar to it.
Can anybody enlighten me as to the roots of this soundtrack or the name of the musical genre that has haunted me for more than 30 years??
