How did Witek get out of the cage?

Wish they had finished the scene at the "junkies" place (were they only druggies or also troubled youth?). The dialogue after makes it sound like Witek got the authorities to agree to the demands but would they really give in just for him? Would the junkies have really torched the place? I'm sure KK didn't feel the need to show us everything but I really wanted that scene to have an ending!

Expansion to your ego.

That's correct. Junkies only. The authorities agreed to the conditions with some modifications and the junkies let Witek go.

The screenplay gives more details about the actual negotiations, the concessions they were both willing to make so they could meet in the middle without loosing face. Initially the authorities wanted to use force but Witek persuaded them not to because "you can't use force against rational arguments". He was a party member, a friend of Werner but they didn't give in just for him; it was a calculated move. They did what was advantageous to them at this point.

Would the junkies have really torched the place?

They had nothing to loose.

It was strange that they skipped over so much there.
