Is it still like this?

Is India still ruled by thakurs in the villages? Are they still able to beat others with impunity and or kill them? Maybe because they pay the police to keep quiet?

Are female widowers in India still treated like scum? Are they now commonly allowed to re-marry in the higher society

After google search I find that being a widow in India is still a big social problem.
