Is this movie no longer scary because of Ghostbusters?

I saw Poltergeist last night for the first time since it's release. I didn't find it scary and sometimes comical.

I also noted a few elements of the film were borrowed for Ghostbusters. I wonder if seeing elements of GB diffused the horror elements of P.

Ghostbusters was released after this.

"were borrowed for Ghostbusters" not from

Could have sworn it said 'from'.

Two people misread the post, so I re-read it. With that sentence structure "from" seems more natural, though not what I meant.

This would have been clearer - I also noted a few elements Poltergeist were used in Ghostbusters.

How did it borrow elements from Ghostbusters, which was released two years later?

I'll chalk this up to the Mandela effect. In my original universe, it said "from." I have now crossed over into your universe, parallel to mine, where it now says "for."

I've never made the connection between the two. I don't think my knowledge or awareness of Ghostbusters changes in any way how I view Poltergeist.

Poltergeist was more paranormal than the ectoplasm and proton packs in the comical Ghostbusters.

i don't remember if or how it scared me as a kid. though the idea of ghosts in your house is scary when you are awake at night so i'm sure for some people it does the job. i do remember being scared of the two little girls in the shining and even the fake ghost kid in three men and a baby after having to go to bed. my niece at 13ish, a few or more years ago, said she wasn't scared of poltergeist after viewing it. the poltergeist sequel seems to be the scarier one with reverend kane being so creepy. ghostbusters definitely lifted some ideas from this film and was even possibly influenced by it. i recognized some fx or ideas even leaking over into evil dead 2, though i could be wrong. poltergeist itself, to me, is more of a sitcom starring a family you love but without the laugh track, having a very special haunted halloween episode, it's very fun.

I don't think this movie is scary.

I first saw this film on HBO I guess about a year after it first came out and really never viewed it as scary. I was probably about 17 at the time. It just seemed like a Spielberg style action film.

It was never scary and always comical.
