National anthem?
Was the national anthem of the United States really played every night in telly, or was it just made up for this movie?

shareIt's history. TV stations that didn't run all night, and before the '90s that was most of them - before the '80s. probably all - signed off and the last thing they played was generally the national anthem. Then up came a test pattern or snow...
shareYes, that was certainly true of the UK, the English (or Welsh or whatever) national anthems were played every night at closedown, depending on the country. There would be "patriotic" images or scenery of the country shown, too.
Of course, this was back in the days of just 4 TV channels in TOTAL, and before rolling news overnight entered the schedules. I actually miss those simpler days, sometimes.
I REMEMBER MANY NIGHTS AS A KID WHEN THE TV WOULD RUN OUT...THIS ENDS OR BROADCAST SCHEDULE FOR TODAY.
shareIt still is.
My local FOX (kvrr out of Fargo) and CBS station still play this before going back onto the air.
Granted it's just an hour or two now.
Yes, and it was wonderful!
shareIt was nice to have a rhythm to life, which seemed to be more prevalent back then. Back when 24-hour convenience stores and supermarkets were rare. Today's mindset of running in high gear 24/7/365 isn't healthy.
shareWe still have the sunrise and sunset.
shareWhich some people ignore.
shareYes, and it's a shame. For me, the day is over when it gets dark. Settle in and be done for the night. And the day starts when the sun comes up. I'll never understand people that can sleep with sun coming through the window.
You don't have to understand them because we live in a free nation where people are free to do as they please. Also, some people work nights and have no other choice but to "sleep with the sun coming through the window".
shareI used to work nights. I had blackouts on my windows. All of my co-workers had similar solutions for sleeping during the day.
Are you seriously suggesting that people who work at night sleep with sunlight coming through their windows? That's not reality.
Back in the day many stations would sign off at 1:00 or 2:00am and resume broadcast at 5:00am.
