Godard's just trying to confuse me now...

I'm half-joking - this was one of his more accessable movies.

Still, why does he have to be so goddamn... frustrating?!?

If someone would like to explain what the message behind the film was, I would appreciate it.

i loved the scenes with huppert and the german actress from fassbinder's films a lot and the "film in a film" scenes. the meaning of it all (like why were all the leading actors using their real first names for instance) i have no idea.

I think it has to do with the 'reality' vs. 'representation of reality = reality' question which seems to be a constant in Godard's work. By using their real names they become a truer representation of the real world, while at the same time it takes them further from the accepted reality of film. It's like breaking the 4th wall in audio.

But I have to say Godard is going overboard in this film and gets too academic for my tastes. The film actually feels more like classroom material than anything else.
