I was rather surprised Zach was as sociable as he was!

Given what that poor kid went through his whole life, my God! His mom kills herself, doesn't even say goodbye to him, knowing he's got nobody to go to.
Then, his dad doesn't give a hang and says so. He thinks he's got friends in a strange new place, and they nearly kill him for his pocket change!

Yet people were surprised that he was a loner! Just a character observation.

Anyone agree?

I agree. His mother essentially abandoned him with her suicide after their father had already abandoned them both, then his father takes him but only because he "has to" and does zero parenting but plenty of womanizing and boozing, and he grows up above a whore house in a country where he has no friends. I'd be a mistrustful loner too!
