How many times have you watched this movie?

This movie cam out in 1981 I think. 32 year ago! Hard to believe it was that long ago. Anyway, over 32 years, I bet I've watched this movie 20 times. Some movies I just never tire of.

Same here, Gere was cool.

I'm 35 and I've probably watched it around 15 times. Definitely in my all-time Top 20.

The first time I watched this film must have been around 1992/93 when I was 15/16. I watched it again last night, and, I reckon that was the sixth or seventh time. It's a great film, well cast and acted. Even get to hear Dire Straits' Tunnel of Love too.. 8/10

No idea; but, I started NROTC training, just after the movie came out. We watched it all of the time, as it was the only film that came close to what we were experiencing, except that our training was conducted over four years.

Yes, have always had a soft spot for this movie. i had a very short and undisguised career in the Royal Australian Navy. I used to joke that I passed 'An Officer and a Gentleman' but failed dismally at 'Top Gun'.

Richard Gere and Louis Gossett's scene 'I got no where else to go...' Is fantastic. Lots of good actors on their way to pretty good careers too. Love it. It's on high rotation in my home.

This movie actually came out in 1982, but I remember seeing a coming attraction for it in a theater when my family and I went to see Annie in July, 1982. Then we brought our first VCR and joined our first video store in November, 1982, and An Officer and a Gentleman was one of the first movies my mother brought on VHS from this store. She did so because she heard it was so good. And I watched it on our VCRs a lot in the 1980s and early 1990s, though not sure of the exact amount of times. But I had not seen it in over 20 years until this past Monday, when I rented it out from Netflix and saw it twice that day, once in the afternoon and once that night. And I really liked it both times and remembered how good it was.

about 15 times

5 or 6 times regularly over the years since it was released. I'm a bit of a sucker for these training academy/overcoming the odds type of movies. Yes, they're derivative, but they seem to push the right buttons for me.

I was a projectionist from 1981 to 2009 - I got cancer and no longer can work.

Back to subject at hand - I've watched it FULLY twice, however due to being a projectionist I've seen hundred of snippets of fim film while making sure all films were running okay.

At the time (1982)I was only working in a twin cinema - so in total I would have seen it in bit'n'pieces' perhaps 20 times over it's ~6 week cinema run.

Late in my career (1990-2009) I worked at two 6plex's, 10plex and a twin drive-in at THE SAME TIME!!! Obviously I was doing 2 or 3 double shifts a week and working often 7 days a week, but only doing a few shifts at each location.

What brought me here to today to IMDB is because I watching a re-run of a 'JAG' episode where Harm carries a girl out of a party where she was not supposed to be, as she was a Princess that he was supposed to be protecting and she had sneaked out to the party.

As he carried her through the room in his white dress uniform, someone uttered quietly reminds me of "An Officer and a Gentleman" - I was waiting for the Princess to take his cap on put on herself, but it never happened, I guess that would have made the scene too much of GROAN moment!

---

So what this all boils down to is, I've download "An Officer and a Gentleman"
and will now watch it for the third time in full in around 30 years.

But I'm sure I watch it a few more times in the future, unless my health issues don't get me first!

I became obsessed with this movie in the late 80's when I rented in on Video one day. I've lost count but I'm sure it is well over 200 times. When I watched it the first time I realized it was filmed in Port Townsend, Washington which was only about 60 miles from where I was living at the time. Had a blast going there and finding all the places where they filmed in P.T.

I've seen it about 10 times. The first time I saw it was when I was in high-school. I watched it with a former Marine, which really helped. He's doing 40 years in prison now, but he was informative when I watched this movie.
