If An Officer And A Gentleman would've been filmed today instead of 1982, does anybody have any good ideas on who would be cast? I might see Samuel Jackson as Foley, but what about the roles of Mayo, Worley, and their girlfriends?
Yes. Samuel L. Jackson would be the perfect Foley and Colin Farrell would be great as Mayo. Although I thought richard Gere was absolutely great as Mayo. Does anybody know if it's true that the role was first offered to John Denver? I never heard that before. I adored him and his music, but I'm not sure if he would have been good as Mayo. Of course, we'll never know. He wasn't cast then and can't be cast now. Johnny Depp is another possibility for Mayo.
I always felt like Annapolis with James Franco tried to imagine itself as a remake of this movie. Or at least an homage. I didn't care much for Annapolis, but I did get a Zack Mayo vibe from Franco.
Foley- Laurence Fishburne or Billy Bob Thornton??, Mayo- Christian Bale, Worley- Casey Affleck, Paula- Kirsten Dunst, Lynette- Rose Mcgowan, Paula's mum- Frances Mcdormand.
Foley-Morgan Freeman (If he was a LITTLE bit younger) or Samuel L. Jackson Mayo- Worley-Aaron Ashmore Paula-Brittany Murphy (I think she could pull it off and she sounds a LOT like Debra) Lynette-???
=I don't think there is anyone today who could play Foley aswell as Louis Gossett Jr. did but I think that Samuel L Jackson, although he is a fantastic actor, is a bit of an obvious choice
Brendan Fehr = Mayo (hey, he has an uncanny resemblence to Richard Gere!)
Michelle Monogan = Paula
Shawn Ashmore = Worley
Becki Newton = Lynette
And as for Foley, I'm going to go against the Samuel L Jackson grain and reccommend Andre Braugher, who has proven time and time again in the excellent series, Homicide: Life on the Street, that he is one of the most volatile actors around!
David Keith's voice did remind me of Heath Ledger's Ennis Del Mar voice. I would have picked Heath Ledger to play Sid, had some remake of this film been made before Ledger's death (and wouldn't it have been bitterly ironic?).
