Uh-oh, let's do the math - statutory rape!

Paula's mom is 39; Paula says that her Officer Candidate dad knocked her up 22 years ago. Since the Officer Candidates have to have college degrees, that's a guy who's at least 22 years old with a 17 year old. Oops! Jailbait!

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

The age of consent in Washington is 16. Even if it was 18, it's unlikely that poor parents in 1960 would press charges.

The age of consent in WA is indeed 16 but it's on a 2 year sliding scale meaning 16/18 and 17/19 years old. But not sure how long the sliding was enacted. Possibly it was not law during the 1960s.

Wow, Paula's mom was supposed to be 39?! She looked 10 years older!

And Paula didn't look 22.

I think they had her being 39, but looking 49 on purpose. Pregnant young, hard life at a dead end factory job. Throw in a pack of cigarettes a day and some drinks. Maybe bonking a few more candidates prior to settling for the stepdad and voila.... middle aged woman before her time

Now that you mention it, when I was in high school it wasn't that uncommon that girls dated guys that were college age. In fact, I remember at prom there was one guy who wore his dress uniform while taking pictures with his high school girlfriend (he could have been 18 though).

There was one specific instance where I know that a girl of 16 had a 22-year old boyfriend and he would eat at her family's house. I mean they were openly dating. This was in the early 90s so it was probably a lot more common in the 60s/70s.

Different times. This was the early 80s. In 1960 no one batted an eye. I think it was even encouraged for girls to marry well-off.
