When Della Serra asks Zack to come and meet his family after graduation, he says no. You'd think a true officer and a gentleman would've honored the request out of respect for his classmate. I never bought into Zack as a true human being.

He wanted to go get Paula. Sometimes booty trumps friendship.

Della Serra was right behind him in line to salute Foley. He had time. Zack was a dick.

Yes he was a dick, but with a twinkle in his eye, and lust in his heart. Plus he wanted to get out of there fast so Foley didn't kick him in the nuts again.

Mayo says something to the effect of "no thanks, I'm going to go earn my first salute". Supposedly this is due to a cut scene where he walks over to his father, who then salutes him.
