La Nuit de Varennes DVD FOR USA
OMG I love this movie and have fond memories but IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IT FOR USA VIEWERS? If anyone knows, I would love to find out - it seems ridiculous not to be able to find it. Thanks everyone.

shareI agree that it is ridiculous that this film is unavailable here in the US. I have been looking for a DVD of this movie as well, subtitled in English. If anyone has any info on where we can find a copy, please do share it. I only saw one copy on Amazon, but there were no subtitles; not even a dubbed version, which I would not want anyway.
Criterion has confirmed that they will release La Nuit de Varennes "at some point". At least we know that it's coming.
shareApparently Criterion is in no hurry. By this time I hope it appears in Blu-ray.

Thought you'd like to know this movie has just been released on bluray in France, with optional English subtitles. So if you have a region-free player, a little shopping on amazon.fr might help. Cheers!
A million thanks, Michel! Even better, it is "Toutes les régions," so I can use my USA-only BR player. What a thrill!

It has also been released on standard DVD region 2 in France and available from Amazon.fr. It also has English subtitles.
So Amazon France is wrong to list it as all region?
shareOne reviewer at Amazon France (which lists La Nuit as all region) reports that it plays fine on his US region BR player.
shareAnd the Blu Ray is so sharp and beautiful. The script, the acting, the period costumes, the competent level of historical accuracy........Wow! And the most gorgeous Blu Ray I now have in my collection.
A stunning Tour de Force!!!!
Did you buy it in the US (if you live here)? It costs about $50 to have it sent by Amazon France.

TODD This is available in the US on Hulu plus. Its a Criterion title even though Criterion has not released it on DVD. You can go to Hulu and sign up for a free week trial. Its fantastic because every Criterion release is on there even films they have not released on DVD such as Wim Wenders "Alice in the Cities" and Ingmar Bergman's "From the Life Of The marionettes" just as an example. Definitely worth checking out. I saw this film years ago on cassette.
