DVD quality

Seems like quality is being sacrificed at the altar of profit.
Check out DVDbeaver.com for comparisons.
Original MGM DVD release in 2003 seems clearly the best for colour quality compared to Infinity Arthouse, for those wanting English subtitles.
Future film is the best picture quality of the three, proving there is a decent PAL master. Sadly, no English subtitles.
MGM is 1:1.66, the other two are 1:1.78. Future Film is cropped top and bottom as well.
MGM gets decent reviews - unlike some of the competition - OOP, too; great shame.
The story and production is first-class and for some may be more than good enough for the quality to be a secondary consideration.
There is a market for old non-English-speaking DVD classics, but many are not being invested in properly, in terms of quality. Let the buyer beware.

Mine's the Koch Lorber edition, released earlier this year.

I don't know how it stands up to the MGM edition, but I can say that Koch Lorber's usually put out superlative discs (at least compared to its earlier incarnation as Fox Lorber films -- see the latter's "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" compared to the new KL incarnation).

Plus it has a 90 minute interview with the Taviani brothers, so it's all good.
