didn't see him in the credits

Probably because it isn't him. Hopkins' own career was fulfilling enough in the early 1980s that he didn't have to be an extra in anything.

I watched My Favorite Year last night and I saw Anthony Hopkins also. There is a brief shot in which his face is clearly pictured in the background in the swordfighting scene that was being rehearsed for the "Cavalcade of Comedy" show guest-starring Alan Swann (Peter O'Toole.) I signed on to this board to see if anyone else noticed him.

Of course, by 1982, Anthony Hopkins was already a major movie star, but he's definitely an "extra" in My Favorite Year. In 1967, O'Toole and Hopkins co-starred in The Lion In Winer. As two of the greatest "British" actors of their generation, (although O'Toole was born in Ireland and Hopkins in Wales) it's likely that they are good friends. And since, as a classical actor, Hopkins is well trained in fencing, he was an obvious choice to be included in this brief scene.

Their are people arguing on another thread that the guy everyone here thinks is Hopkins is Aidan Quinn. In reality he is too young looking to be Hopkins and too old looking to be Quinn.

Personally I think it was this guy (Jed Mills) who actually IS listed in the cast credits: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0590039/

You're right. Shame that people can't even look through the credits.

He does look like him and also like Aidan Quinn. But, he's neither. I agree that it's Jed Mills.
