I think they chose to recast the role because they wanted to go in a different direction. Rachel Longaker was wonderful playing girl-next-door types. But they brought in a slightly older actress to play Aimee as a spoiled, vixen-type. It didn't work and fortunately, in Aimee's last appearance (in the 1993 Thanksgiving special), they brought Longaker back.
