Mary Ellen divorced Curt?

Did I hear right? Cora Beth said Mary Ellen is a divorced woman?? That Curt abandoned her??

Wow! They really re-wrote history. Strange.

The movie was consistent with what was established in Season 9, Episodes 9 & 10 (The Whirlwind and The Tempest) where Mary Ellen (SPOILER ALERT IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THOSE EPISODES SOON) was shocked to learn that Curt wasn't killed at Pearl Harbor, but had been wounded while out of uniform, and that when he finally remembered everything, he also learned that he suffered a permanent injury that made him unable to "be a complete man" and so he decided since everyone back in Virginia already thought him dead, it would be best for all if he never went back to them.

He settled in Florida and lived, more or less, a solitary life, serving as a fishing guide. Mary Ellen traveled to talk to him, finally getting him to explain what happened, but he had no desire to resume his previous life and couldn't bear to be with his family, so they parted ways forever.

On the series message board, I have written, and many have agreed that those two episodes were the worst, or nearly the worst, of any in the entire series. It was strange then, and didn't match the facts we were told about how Curt had died at Pearl Harbor. Then was when they were inconsistent. For this movie, they followed up on those two episodes.

Are you effin $hitting me???

I can't believe it! I never made it as far as S9. I bailed soon after the fat lady moved in to fill the place of Livvie. That was when the show jumped the shark IMO. So I never knew what happened after I dropped out. I cannot believe the writers would stoop to such drivel. Cheap soap opera device. I'm glad I didn't see that. I don't know whether I'd scream, cry, kick the TV in, or vomit. What a way to strip a once-great TV drama of all dignity! I wonder how the cast felt about it. If I was in the cast, I don't know if I could take part if I was required to be in an episode as stupid as that. I think I would rather be sued for breach of contract.

That's really a disgrace

Yeah - Curt's resurrection was probably the worst thing the show did, even worse than the fake John Boy. And they couldn't even get the original actor back (Tom Bower probably thought it was ridiculous too) so they recast the role for those two episodes.

That last season wasn't supposed to happen - they were supposed to wrap the series up with the "Decade of the Waltons" special that aired in the spring of 1980. But the show got an unexpected renewal (instead of "Barnaby Jones"), and we got a bunch of really bad episodes to wrap up the series.

i agree, the Curt still being alive was just plain DUMB.they were doing the same shtick on DALLAS at that time so they just moved it over to the Waltons. i liked Jonesy better for Mary Ellen because even back in the day i realized Curt was WAY to old for Mary Ellen. he looked menacing and probably good have been cast as maybe Johns old drinking buddy or something along those lines.
