Eye of the Beholder (1999) was a remake of this film!

Hi folks. Did you know that the much slammed Hollywood flick Eye of the Beholder (1999), directed by Stephan Elliott and starring Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd is actually a remake of this film, Deadly Circuit? And also, in your opinion, seeing that this film mostly gets praised and "Eye..." mostly slammed, what is it (ie what are the factors?) that make this film "Deadly Circuit" much better in your opinion?

Which , out of the two films, do you prefer the most? And is one of the reasons why Deadly Circuit is so praised and Eye of the Beholder so panned is that Deadly Circuit has far more originality, and Eye of the Beholder is just a poor remake of it? What do you think?

Yeah, it's weird though that you can't find that info on IMDB. At least I couldn't find it when I looked at the Eye of the Beholder page the last time.

It's not that terrible a remake, but it just doesn't work the way it does in the original movie. One movie is about family affairs, the other is about a love affair. There are things you do for love, but there are also limits. There are no borders to what you do for family and that's what makes the original movie great.

I watched this movie on TV a long time ago and it left a strong impression. It was one of those that make you really pause and think for a moment, especially at the ending, when things suddenly all make sense. It's also beautifully acted and has some funny scenes, despite the seriousness.

Brilliant movie that needed no remake. Instant classic, in my opinion.

2 elf - thanks for the reply, I take it you also HAVE seen "Eye of the Beholder" (1999), right? Which stars Ewan MacGreggor and Ashley Judd and is directed by Stephan Elliott? Interestingly enough, not many people who have seen that movie seem to even BE aware that its a remake of this one, but then again this movie also seems to be fairly obscure and without even much of a DVD release.

And yes it goes with saying that Eye of the Beholder has mostly been heavily criticized and panned both by critics and audiences alike, without having too much comparisons in the reviews to this film, with many finding it a shallow, boring, derivative and unbelievable movie that's both unbelievable and boring overall.

This one generally seems to be getting much better reviews though.
