Why would leopold if that was the brilliant mans name, who does not believe in any spirits or anything of the sort be singing and supporting christianity?

I'm no Christianity supporter myself, but it's evident that the vast majority of the great works of art and music to come out of Europe from the Middle Ages all through Renaissance, Baroque, and the likes, have been of a religious nature. Plus, Leopold never discusses the meaning of the song, whether to agree with it or not. He just sings it.
