Tony Roberts

I think this film contains Tony Roberts' finest performance as the womanizing doctor who, upon arrival at Andrew's place for the weekend, forsakes his current mistress (Julie Hagerty) for Leopold's fiancee (Mia Farrow). Roberts commands the screen in this film like he never has. I don't know what it was about him in this film, but his was the performance in this film that really stood out for me.

Have to agree. I just saw this movie today for the first time and really enjoyed it. I thought his portrayal of Maxwell was great.

I love how Maxwell (Max) is a recall from "Annie Hall".

The man was a champ any time that he appeared on screen for Woody. He has such an entertaining charm in front of the camera, but the added layers of emotion and feeling in this film made him so much more than just the funny guy he excelled at being.

Tony Roberts remains one of my favorite "Woody Allen" supporting actors. I loved him in this, and in PLAY IT AGAIN SAM, where he is constantly on the phone with business deals and doesn't realize how he's neglecting his wife. He's got so much charm and charisma, he was even charming when he played a HIT MAN in an episaode of McMILLAN (with Rock Hudson & Shirley Jones), "Phillip's Game". I recently watched him in the pilot for ROSETTI AND RYAN (1977), which was sort of what if PERRY MASON were young and dashing. One of the most intelligent scripts I'ver ever seen in the late 70's, a shame the series didn't last.
