So when is the Criterion Collection dvd edition of this film coming out?
Just wondering....
shareSmartarse! It will be released the same day as the Criterion Collection edition of "You Got Served".
shareThe same time the Criterion edition of Jekyll and Hyde: Together Again is released.
shareYes, I do jest, but there were sooo many commercial tie-ins with this game that you could put together a pretty stocked DVD, not unlike what they did with the fantasy version of Megaforce - the disappointing "Krull". Krull isn't quite so bad as "Megaforce" but my goodness you could have a lot of fun chronicling all the ways this film was meant to be the start of a multimedia franchise.
Hey. If Criterion can release "Fiend Without a Face" (a REALLY gory silly 1950s horror movie) they can do "Megaforce". I've never seen it but I LOVE bad/good movies and this sounds right up my alley:)
shareWell, maybe not a Criterion, but definitely any Megaforce DVD should be a fully-stocked fan edition, just like Krull. There was SO much hype that went into the film (fan clubs, video games, etc.). It should all be captured for posterity. My personal favorite was the poster that says "Are you man enough for Megaforce?", all the more humorous when Ace Hunter could be considered the first metrosexual. :-)
shareAt about the same time the CC special ed of Armageddon.
Oh, wait.

The subject line of this post was so funny, that it made milk come out my nose.
I haven't had milk in five years!
Now that is funny!
Now I never watched this film, but I remember back in the day when it was released on VHS (and probably Beta) and all of the stores that sold TV’s and VCR’s and would play it non-stop all though the day. I had gone in looking for Yar’s revenge for the Atari 2600 and saw a scene where Bostwick was flying his motorcycle into the back of some plane or other flying machine. I died laughing because I remember thinking it looked so much more fake than Galactica 1980.
I picked up the DVD earlier this year. It's not that bad. Sadly, it was no Criterion Collection and now with Hal Needham gone, we'll never get his excellent director's commentary. :-( Criterion waited too long.
shareDon't forget the ever so fastidious and discriminating Criterion Collection has released de luxe editions of most Michael Bay movies. I'd take MEGAFORCE any day over them.
shareI be honest, a Criterion Collection edition of Megaforce would be a day-one buy for me
shareONE Michael Bay movie, and IIRC, it's The Rock.
shareTwo, actually..."Armageddon" was the other one. I don't know if there are any more. I would consider buying a "Bad Boys II" Criterion blu-ray if it had Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in character as Nicolas Angel and Danny Butterman watching the movie.
